#Equipment previously in this series (e.g., turboliners, GP40s, F40s, etc.) was renumbered
*Out of service P42s as of 12/31/08: 3, 7, 8, 143, 149, 167, 173 and 200. An active fleet total other than 199 indicates some of these units have been returned to service, or others added to the inactive list, since 12/31/2008.
**Some Amtrak F40s are still in service elsewhere or preserved.
***These units were rebuilt from the former Go Transit GP40s by NS at the Juniata Locomotive Shops with the same numbers as now: 520-527.
****The current status of these units can be found here.

|*Units received from CSX in exchange for title to F40 Nos. 390 and 395.
**Ordered from Motive Power Industries in May, 2004. Delivery began in November, 2004, and all 10 were delivered to Bear, DE, by February, 2005. Initial reports had these classified as MP15Bs, nameplate data calls them GP15s and Amtrak refers to them as GP15D.
***Not actually owned by Amtrak, but was intended for use as a switcher for Amtrak in Los Angeles. Was built as CP 1700, and is now (Jan. 2008) in process of being sent back to Railpower. Unit reportedly never ran while on Amtrak property.
