This page provides a brief history of the 12 VIA Rail Canada coaches and dome cars leased by Amtrak in November 2012. The equipment was used on the Adirondack between Albany/Rensselaer and Montreal during the busy Thanksgiving travel season. (Passengers between New York and Albany/Rensselaer were carried on other trains, thus freeing up the normal Adirondack Amfleet cars which had been intended to be used by NJT to increase its capacity in the wake of significant equipment damage due to Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Ultimately, no cars were loaned to NJT, thus Amtrak was able to increase capacity on its own trains.) All cars were built by The Budd Company.
