Caltrain Completes Integrated Testing between San Francisco and San Jose

 

Caltrain’s electric trains have completed integrated testing between San Francisco and San Jose, marking an important milestone in the operator’s Electrification Project.

 

During this process, tests were carried out on the electric trains, the overhead contact system, the grounding, the bonding and the existing infrastructure, especially in the final segment of the route from San Francisco to Millbrae.

 

This achievement paves the way for Caltrain to deliver the full rollout of its electrified passenger rail service in autumn 2024.

After completing a mock schedule test this weekend (6/8-9) with eight electric-powered trainsets operating simultaneously, Caltrain is targeting Saturday, September 21 for the start of revenue electric-powered service between San Francisco and San Jose. It's been a long time coming.

Caltrain Begins Electric Train Passenger Service

 

Beginning August 11, the electric trains will run their first regular service. Additional electric trains will be introduced every week until the launch of the new schedule and full electrified service between San Francisco and San Jose on Sept. 21.

California’s Caltrain debuted its cutting-edge electric fleet, hosting a VIP tour where participants boarded the trains for its historic inaugural service.

 

 

After nearly a decade of construction, these new trains signify a landmark shift toward a faster, more frequent and environmentally friendly public transportation network along the San Francisco Peninsula.

 

  Kicking Off Caltrain’s New Fleet

 

The event included a 30-minute round-trip experience, starting in San Francisco with the opportunity to engage with federal, state, local elected officials as well as transportation, business, labor, and community leaders.

Caltrain launched its new electrified schedule, bringing the 160-year-old San Francisco-San Jose rail corridor from diesel power to electric. 

 

 

Caltrain is currently running 100% renewable, zero-emission service from San Francisco to San Jose for the first time.
