Train hits homeless man sleeping on tracks outside downtown Omaha
More people living in encampments are close to the railroad.
OMAHA, Neb. — Conductors say they couldn't stop a Union Pacific train in time when they noticed a man was sleeping on the tracks around 4:30 Friday morning near Woolworth Avenue, between 16th and 20th Streets, just outside downtown Omaha.
A police spokesperson said a 28-year-old male was rushed to Nebraska Medical Center with critical injuries to his lower legs. Union Pacific Police are now investigating. A company spokesperson said the crew on board are unharmed.
