Testing of CPKC's high-power hydrogen locomotive begins

CPKC's high-horsepower hydrogen locomotive, CP 1200, reached an exciting milestone on September 4 and 5, successfully completing its first phase of testing that involved transporting loaded and empty bulk trains.

On 4 September, CP 1200, along with its CP 10001 fuel tender, joined a formation that included three diesel locomotives and 152 loaded nacelles. The next day, this state-of-the-art hydrogen locomotive helped return 152 empty gondolas to Sparwood.

The test is part of CPKC's pilot program in collaboration with Glencore, formerly Teck Resources Ltd., and is the first of three testing phases designed to validate the reliability of high-horsepower hydrogen locomotives.
