     Connect Cleveland, Toledo, Chicago By Rail: Ohio Politicians  

 

 

A coterie of northern Ohio politicians are calling for Amtrak to link Cleveland and Chicago by railway.

 

 

Article is here.      The article was poorly researched and written, as there is no mention that there already is a rail connection between Cleveland, Toledo, and Chicago.  Two per day, in the name of the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited.   Yeah they do provide poor calling times in Toledo and Cleveland, but this implies that there is nothing.  Sure the corridor could be helped by some daytime frequencies.   And sure some could go via Michigan as implied to serve the Michigan population (although it might have to miss Detroit given the current station location).

Indianapolis Twitter salivated over Amtrak's vague plans for the region in the spring, when President Joe Biden's massive infrastructure bill had yet to climb through Congress.

 

Now with Senate approval and House debates underway, Amtrak has shared new details about its proposal for Indianapolis rail connections, drastically increasing the frequency of service to neighboring cities and offering new local stops.

A possible boost in transportation across Ohio could be coming after President Biden's $1.2 Trillion Infrastructure Bill is signed into law.

 

Billions of dollars from the deal could provide Amtrak services in major cities around the state.

    Bid for nothing less than high-speed Amtrak service from Cleveland to Columbus  

 

 

Any analysis of Amtrak service from Cleveland to Columbus should consider “door-to-door” time. Driving to Columbus takes 2.5 hours, and up to 175,000 drive it daily. No one flies. Why? Door-to-door time! Building a train system that, at 80 mph, takes about the same time as driving makes little sense -- but building for a train that covers the distance and changes the door-to-door time to something like less than 30 minutes is a really big idea!
